Why should my organization implement ISO 9001?
Customers are the lifeblood of any business. To keep customers - and to keep them satisfied - your product or service must meet their requirements. ISO 9001 provides a tried and tested framework for taking a systematic approach to managing your business processes to meet and exceed those requirements. Bureau Veritas Certification offer the value of an independent third party specialist, who can review your management system and provide certification to the standard.

How can I improve my management system?
The current ISO 9001:2000 is a vast improvement above the previous "1994" version of the standard (which is now replaced). It has less emphasis upon documented control of procedures, and a greater focus on managing processes around meeting customer needs. The corresponding effect on organizational performance leads many Bureau Veritas Certification clients to adopt other standards such as; ISO 14001 - to manage enviromental risks and performance, OHSAS 18001 - to manage health & safety at work etc

Environment

Which areas are covered by the ISO 14000 series?
The key areas covered by this series are:

 Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
 Environmental Auditing

Environmental Labels and Declarations
 Environmental Performance Evaluation

ISO 14001 is the only internationally recognized standard for Environmental Management Systems (EMS).

Is ISO 14001 being revised? Is it better to wait?
It is not necessary to wait, because no big changes are expected.Just like any ISO standard, ISO 14001 is under a periodical revision. Despite a new standard may be published in 2004, the objectives of the current revision are to clarify some requirements and align the standard to the new ISO 9001:2000.

Health & Safety

OHSAS 18001: What does it do (intent of standard)?
OHSAS 18001 is an auditable certification standard that will allow you to demonstrate that you are able to identify, evaluate and control hazards in your workplace.

What do I need in place?
You need to have established an operable occupational health and safety management system.

Can I integrate it with other standards?
Yes.OHSAS 18001 is designed to be integrated with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.

Social Responsibility

Why is there no single universally accepted standard for social responsibility?

This has not yet happened, as these standards are still new. ISO has commenced preparation work to develop standards on Corporate Social Responsibility but this is years away.

Does SA8000 apply to all industries?
No, due to the nature of some industries, they are excluded from the scope SA8000, for example agriculture and extractive industries. However, Bureau Veritas Certification can help organizations in these sectors adopt
alternative approaches in order to achieve their corporate social responsibility objectives.

Telecommunications

Can TL 9000 be integrated with other management systems?
Yes, Bureau Veritas Certification can assist with the installation of an integrated system encompassing TL 9000 and other systems.

What are the benefits of TL 9000 ? What does it bring on top of ISO 9000 ?
TL 9000 certification brings recognition within the industry, and provides an increased ability to sell in specific markets, particularly USA. Certain organizations may make TL 9000 certification a mandatory requirement of supply, others encourage this as a route to maintain preferred supplier status.

Should my organization pursue both ISO9000 and TL 9000 or does TL 9000 encompasses both?
Registration to TL 9000 includes, by default, registration to ISO 9001:2000.  If a company does not intend to cover their entire product line by the TL 9000 registration, they would have to maintain a separate ISO 9001:2000 registration for the remainder of the company. As a result, most organizations maintain the same scope and integrate the two systems.

Aerospace

Can I combine elements of my AS/EN9100 management system with my environment and safety systems?
Yes, because AS/EN 9100 is geared around ISO 9001:2000, it is compatible with an integrated management system encompassing other internal standards. Bureau Veritas Certification can assist in integrating these to achieve optimum efficiency.
